mares
and stallions are on winter range from November to early June, and
often, the mares have been bred before the spring gather, making it
impossible to know which stallion they were bred by.
However, the stallions throw distinguishing color, marking their
foals as their offspring.
Registered mares and colts are bred more precisely and
